Josh Thomson

As Director of Thomson Rural, Josh leads the business with a clear focus on delivering independent, practical advice to farmers and landowners across the region. With a background in both commercial agriculture and consultancy, he brings a grounded, real-world approach to helping clients plan, adapt, and succeed.

Josh has had experience in the UK and overseas, including time farming in New Zealand and working in the potato supply chain back home. This blend of hands-on work and commercial exposure shaped his understanding of how farm businesses operate day to day — and where they can add value.

Before founding Thomson Rural, he spent several years advising a wide range of farming businesses, building strong client relationships and qualifying as a Farm Business Consultant. He now supports clients on business strategy, grant funding, compliance, and environmental schemes. Josh also holds BASIS (Soil & Water) and FACTS qualifications, enabling informed support on sustainable land and nutrient management.

Known for his straightforward approach and strong agricultural grounding, Josh is focused on helping clients make confident decisions and build more resilient, profitable businesses.
